The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) is gathering hundreds of key actors and stakeholders from the public, private sector and the academia in the framework of an important Conference on Blue Economy (BE) in the Mediterranean. The event will be held next 29-30 November, 2017 in Naples – Campania (Italy), in which the CPMR Intermediterranean Commission and its regions will be highly involved.
In 2015, the UfM Ministerial Declaration on Blue Economy was adopted to ensure appropriate governance structures on this interesting theme in the Mediterranean. The UfM Forum on Blue Economy was established as a “…framework of dialogue on sustainable blue economy…” made of various actions and events, including the UfM Regional Stakeholder Conference on Blue Economy.
This two-day international and multi-stakeholder Conference has the aim to: i) consolidate the Mediterranean blue economy community through the exchange of ideas and views among key stakeholders; ii) capitalize on the experiences and lessons learned so as to stimulate cross-fertilization and foster large partnerships; iii) discuss the opportunities and challenges of the various blue economy sectors in terms of jobs creation and investments potential.
The conference will be the occasion to present the new Blue open calls for proposals and the Enterprise Europe Network. Targeting Innovation, marine litter, cooperation in the Mediterranean – the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund launches a call to foster a “Sustainable Blue Economy” across Europe.
With a budget of € 14,5 Million, “the call will accelerate the implementation of the European maritime policy and the deployment of the Blue Economy across Europe and in the Mediterranean. It will be open to all sea basins surrounding the EU coasts and will target a wide range of stakeholders of the Blue Economy”.
Besides, the conference will offer a b2b session and 12 well-tailored workshops addressing components of a Blue economy vision for the Mediterranean. For example: sustainable maritime and coastal tourism, sustainable fisheries, maritime research & innovation, entrepreneurship, maritime safety and security, youth employability in marine and maritime sectors, marine litter, marine energies, governance.
The CPMR Intermediterranean Commission and its members will take part in most of the workshops, and several Interreg Med projects in which the IMC is involved will also contribute to the different activities, such as PANACeA on marine Litter and MPAs, InnoBlueGrowth on blue energies and finance blending, Mitomed+, Co-Evolve and MC4BG on sustainable tourism.
A transnational capitalization seminar featured by the Interreg MED Blue Growth Community (InnoBlueGrowth) with a focus on marine energies will be also organised on the previous days, 27-28th of November 2017 at the University Parthenope of Naples (Registrations here). The IMC co-organizes this event with the project partners. An internal side meeting of the IMC Task force on Blue Economy which contributes to the monitoring in the Regions of the UfM agenda on Blue Economy, will be celebrated in the afternoon of the second day 28th of November in the same venue.
